I guess disabling full screen notifications for the phone app does work, but I kinda liked the full screen notifications when I'm driving.

Thanks, I'll check that out.

"had"

Were you able to make the alert stop?

I suppose I could try that. I was hoping for an easier solution.

The phone is really great other than this one annoying "feature," especially for the price.

Hello all!

My new phone (Moto G Stylus 5G 2024 running Android 14) keeps giving me this alert that an app is giving full screen notifications. The app in question is the freaking telephone app, which I of course want full screen notifications from! There's no option to disable the alert. (The two choices are "go to options" and "not now," by the way. And "go to options" takes you to the telephone app's notification settings.) I cannot seem to find a setting related to this, and I've disabled every Motorola app (including system apps) that I can find in the app list. Although, some of them don't allow disabling.

Anybody familiar with this by chance? I'm getting this stupid alert for every other phone call.

Thank you!

I'm aware of Lemmygrad, yes. FOSS is the reason why I joined Lemmy, and I was at least mildly aware of the developers' philosophy. I wasn't aware they were moderating all dissent.

I mean, I mostly look at memes, so I never noticed that. And .ml stands for Mali, the country. I didn't know it was a dual meaning acronym.

Do you care to elaborate a bit more on what you don't like about .ml moderation? I joined Lemmy before the reddit exodus. At the time I joined, .ml was the largest instance.

Hmmm. I don't believe I've tried pirate IPTV. What are the best pirate IPTV sites? So I can avoid them, of course.

The Wikipedia app has had dark mode for a while. Plus dark mode in Firefox works fine with no extensions.

I'm currently reading "All the Knowledge in the World: A History of the Encyclopedia" by Simon Garfield. It mentions a similar thought held by some around the time of the creation of the Encyclopedia Brittanica. (Late 1700s, if I recall correctly)

There were too many books, and they were being printed by just anyone. Who needs a really long dictionary, anyway?

We don't ... Record and broadcast election venues? This would be weird. If some people did do it, only people at their specific voting site would see it.

I'm gonna add to this by saying phosphorus may be my favorite, but I think the most likely filter is just time, twice.

Do you know how unlikely it is that earth has been habitable for so long? Do you know how long life was single-celled? One of the theories for how advanced (eukaryotic) cells formed was the combination of at least three different branches of life into the same cell! Archaea (cell wall), bacteria (mitochondria/chloroplasts), and viruses (nucleus). Do you know how unlikely that sounds? Do you know how long it would take for that to happen randomly? Most planets probably aren't even habitable for that long. Once we became eukaryotic, we started progressing much faster.

Then, keep in mind, the life has to continue to exist for billions of more years while it waits for the advanced life to happen again within the same section of the galaxy. So, time is two filters - both behind us and in front of us.

I've tried to find them to no avail. I'm guessing the box sets just aren't made anymore, but I figured it's worth asking in case there's some obscure one out there somewhere.

To clarify, I'm looking for a more recent Linux version. I know the older ones can be found on auction sites and the like.
