IBM standard cards are one 48th of a barleycorn thick. I believe IBM measured from the 1932 Iowa Reference Barleycorn, now kept in the vault inside Mt Rushmore.

it's bizarre without context, but i recognise what they mean - Sony's headphones app suggests you send them photos of your ears so they can analyse the shape to improve the noise cancellation.

nor decoding 264 :(

a rather annoying regression from the 4 to the 5, especially when the 5 now supports more MIPI cameras where live encoding is crucial.

at least on a 4, this command will misleadingly return "disabled" even though your programs are able to use hwdec, because the h.265 decoder isn't part of the Pi 4's GPU, it's elsewhere.

Freezing temperatures being obvious with a minus number is an advantage, not a problem, IMO. Easy to see from the bigger negative number when water will freeze more quickly, when snow is more likely to lie on the ground, etc.

americans really just have to remember a long list of random numbers like how many ounces a full pint is supposed to be, huh.

i'm imagining a whole day of school like, "when people say nickel, they mean 5 cents, a dime is 10 cents, 12 inches is a foot, 3 feet is a yard, water freezes at 32F and boils at 212F..." and the children just crying into their notebooks by the time they get to miles and tons and acres.

using the browser isn't necessary to keep your watch history up to date.

yt-dlp can log in as you by reading your cookies from your browser, and, with the optional --mark-watched flag, mark your downloaded videos as watched in your YT account.

A lot of words to to express "I'm an American who doesn't even have a passport."

Can't even imagine a walkable city, and talking about it like it's a far-off sci-fi concept, rather than a lot of peoples' actual everyday life. Yikes.

Those are both serious blockers for me tbh, I like to take it out away from home and watch YT / Nebula vids. I'm keeping am eye on Asahi's progress though.

I have an M1 Macbook Air (under half price secondhand thanks to a superficial dent on a corner) and while I agree I love having such powerful hardware that sips battery so sparingly, MacOS can go eat a whole bag of stale dicks. Homebrew makes it... tolerable, but I'm holding out hope for that new Qualcomm ARM laptop - the recent benchmarks beat Apple's chips handily.

So... do they need external cracks?
