smashing printers with baseball bats

I have years of IT experience, offer Linux support, and am visibly the kind of guy you just know can fix your computer problem (or, if I take my glasses off, I look like I sell weed apparently), and when asked to help with printers I have one answer:

They're sentient and they hate you. I was trained in IT, not exorcisms. Send it as a PDF, PNG, or smoke signal before you try troubleshooting.

Like, I broke my big office one the other day so bad the tech had to come out. What had I done to brick it so badly? Tap a menu option, tap back, then tap a different menu option. If you don't wait 3s between the second and third tap it errors and freezes and they have to send a tech out to do some sort of 2 hour long ritual where he rubs it and whispers how sorry he is.

What the fuck is wrong with printers

Premiere Pro runs smoother on Linux than on Win7-10 ever did

After effects felt the same as PP

So far I haven't run into any program wine/bottles can't run. Closest I got was needing to install a second program through wine and run them through the same prefix which is not hard at all

best replacement for Excel

I've never met a google sheet that couldn't do what excel did unless excel was being made to do shit it really isn't ideal for

Yeah it's another Corp, but you don't have to pay and you can simultaneously edit the file on 80 devices at the same time if you want

Yes:

  • Demystifying obscure or non-existent documentation
  • Basic error checking my configs/code: input error, ask what the cause is, double check it's work. In hour 6 of late night homelab fixing this can save my life
  • I use it to create concepts of art I later commission. Most recently I used it to concept an entirely new avatar and I'm having a pro make it in their style for pay
  • DnD/Cyberpunk character art generation, this person does not exist website basically
  • duplicate checking / spot-the-diffetences, like pastebins "differences" feature because the MMO I play released prelim as well as full patch notes and I like to read the differences

What could've fit in a screen of text should not be a video at all

In your opinion, maybe

I save videos for later all the time, I just watch them never

Ok, that's your own bad habit, guess you don't need to participate since you won't watch em

If some information is not visual-first, and not entertainment, if it may be important to people and should be spread, it also better not be a video

Tell that to broadcast news. The information provided in videos like this is basically never something original if it's not entertainment, so you absolutely can find the information elsewhere

Still have yet to see any arguments as to how relevant content on a relevant link aggregator is in any way bad to people who don't have a weird hate boner for specific media types, because there isn't one 😉

If only there were some save for later button so you could come back later or something

Yeah, figured people would downvote me for pointing out that was a garbage response

Videos don't degrade the quality of s link aggregator, you're not required to immediately participate the moment you see it

in my opinion they don't contribute to the quality here.

As respectfully as possible: huh?

We're on a link aggregation site, for posting links to things off-site and discuss them in relevant communities

If something is a video or article it makes no difference on its quality or relevance to the community at hand, no?

can be replaced by a broom in 90% of cases

only need a vacuum cleaner if you have a carpet

Or a rug, or cloth furniture like a couch, or drapes/curtains, underneath the fridge and other spots a broom just doesn't fit, inside cupboards, probably more places that aren't coming straight to mind

Oh: keyboards!
