Hey I read about some new device that lets you put work hours in from your sleep! So doing this doesn’t seem far off.

I don’t think they implied that they would switch to Apple. They just want off android so bad they can’t wait for the new Linux mobile OS

Seedbox is optional. It can connect to different torrent software to load the torrents in. It also can just do “black hole” which dumps all the torrents into a folder that you can setup your torrent program to watch.

They have a wiki which explains a lot: https://wiki.servarr.com/ as well as other arr software.

Edit: sonarr monitors your tv shows to make sure it has all episodes and grabs new ones. Radarr monitors your movie collection. It also connects directly to your torrent provider / seedbox. Can setup quality profiles and the like to customize which files get grabbed and what not. They also do bulk renaming of files to make sure plex sees them properly. Plus more.

From what I have read regarding RCS it seems you are not wrong. I also read the tech it’s based on is ancient.

Yeah I am almost positive they do force itself back on sometimes lol. Though you are right that it shouldn’t share your IP. But like short of someone you don’t know having access to your WiFi it has to be something weird like that lol

Good to know about Usenet. I haven’t used it in a decade and have no idea what provider I was using. I was also younger and dumber so prob didn’t realize I could have just switched providers. Me at the time thought the dmca Usenet was more of a global issue. I now realize that likely wasn’t the case lol

I wonder if Xfinity hotspots could be this? Are you using their modem / router ?

Edit: also glad to hear Usenet is doing well. I switched to it a long time ago and uses for a bit. Though I remember so many items being removed due to dmca. All my downloads were just text files saying removed by dmca over and over again. So I ended up switching back to torrent via seedbox. Now I just use real debrid. Don’t feel like bothering with other setups lately lol.

Yeah makes sense for 5g home internet

Hmm I had my buddy go to this and he claims his download history has things he never downloaded. He doesn’t use a VPN and no one in his house torrents but him. Also he primarily uses a seedbox. Confusing lol.

Oh he uses T-Mobile home internet so prob shares a public IP with more than a usual ISP

It does look like the prices changed recently. I have 2 houses currently with similar plans. My currently living in house is using the Xfinity modem and costs $25 /m but I guess that’s the modem and the unlimited so not too bad.

My other house has my own network system and not using any Comcast hardware and that one is $30/m.

The bad part for me was until recently they refused to give me unlimited (when it cost $50) and I wasn’t able to get it for a while. It just wouldn’t go through. I got my fair share of overage charges cause of it. I’m sure if I spent enough time bitching at support I could get something from it but I don’t have it in me to do that lol

Comcast has been doing this for over a decade I believe. By default their routers advertise a hotspot exclusive to other Comcast subscribers. Not sure the security behind it since it’s not technically a password just authenticate via your Comcast account. But I agree it is crazy lol I had a similar reaction when I first found out.

Anyone else have it ? The more work I do setting things up like dockers, reverse proxies, single sign on, etc. the more I want to do it. But I’m running out of ideas of things to host that would actually benefit me. But I have that itch where I want more lol.

So far I have the following: (EDIT: added descriptions for those who aren’t familar with all of it. )

  1. Caddy - use this primarily as a reverse proxy to access my applications via my domain and outside the house
  2. Nextcloud - mainly using it for cloud storage but also some of their other apps likes decks and tasks as well as contacts and calendar.
  3. Memos - simple note taking app similar to twitter but personal.
  4. Miniflux - rss
  5. Authentik - sso
  6. Portainer - web view of dockers and status / health
  7. KitchenOwl - groceries / recipe management
  8. Actual - zero budgeting (like YNAB)
  9. Firefly iii - finances management
  10. Immich - images / iCloud replacement
  11. Organizr (barely using it. Trying to think of more use cases) - dashboard of all my services
  12. Speedtest - runs daily speed tests and monitors.
  13. Plex - host my media library
  14. Plex_Debrid / rclone - sync real Debrid with plex.
  15. rsync to backup data to one onsite and one off site location. Automated backups
  16. Watchtower automated docker updates
  17. Home Assistant - home automation
  18. Home bridge - Apple home automation
  19. Zigbee2mqtt - manage zigbee smart home devices
  20. Unifi controller - manage my network

I think that’s everything!

Edit: Thanks for the overwhelming responses! I really appreciate everyone with their opinions. First things first I did get borg setup for both my server and my desktop so thats awesome! I am waiting for response from my backup server admin if they can install rdiff-backup for me so I can utilize that as well for my cloud backups.

Going to take a look at a few other of the many suggestions here! More than a few I like!

Wasn’t sure where to ask this but figured people here host their own rss platforms. I just started with miniflux. Between that and reeder it makes RSS nice and easy.

My issue is that until the 3rd party Reddit nonsense, i let Reddit monopolize my information gathering. To the point I don’t know where else to get info from. Like which websites I can trust that aren’t just bad forms of marketing. Forums and things like that. I don’t know any of them because I spent all my time with Reddit.

Anyone have ideas or suggestions of good rss feeds for people who are interested in tech and programming and gaming and whatnot

Edit: thanks for all the great suggestions. I’m building up a nice RSS stream.
