Another laziness by the professors is using book questions instead of just writing their own.

When I taught I told my students that the book was a resource for studying the material from a different perspective than the one I gave in lectures. Not actually required for the course even though I didn't have control over it being listed as required on the course listing. And I told them if they wanted to get it, they should find the cheapest copy they could. I've heard you can sometimes find very cheap electronic copies (wink wink).

It is funny to see the questions you write end up on Chegg though.

I sincerely hope you never test this theory. I think many people in this thread are severely underestimating how little noise is needed to be disruptive in the early morning.

My local noise ordinance sets the maximum permissible noise in residential areas during off-hours (10pm - 9am on weekends) at 45 dB. That can be exceeded by 5 dB for 15 minutes, 10 dB for 5 minutes, and 15 dB for 1.5 minutes. Lawnmowers are an exempt source of noise during day hours only. I guarantee if you were my neighbor your mower would be in violation of noise ordinance at night.

Plus, assume some people are sleeping with their windows open. Especially in mowing weather. Windows open overnight may be the only way they keep their house bearable during hot days.

Based on the design I think this is the one I have: https://www.ryobitools.com/products/details/46396037169#

It does say "brushless" but they've got a fair few different varieties. I don't know, I mean like I said it is significantly quieter than a gas mower. It's a good mower. But I don't think it's anywhere near quiet enough to consider using it during off hours.

My car insurance went up like 20% from last year to this year. Exact same shitty "coverage" as before.

What lawn mower do you have that is that quiet??? I have a Ryobi electric push mower that I bought last year and while it's way quieter than a gas mower I would feel incredibly rude using it early in the morning.

And noise is different depending on time of day. Ambient noise is a lot lower in off-hours, so your mower would sound louder than it does during the day.

The user always lies. Or even if they don't, they can't intimidate the ghosts in the machine like you can.

We are nowhere near advanced enough to say that life, complex or intelligent, doesn't exist anywhere near us. There is no reason to believe an intelligent spacefaring race would make themselves so obviously detectable that us stupid primates could see them. And for non-intelligent life, we've been able to confirm mere thousands of planets. We have a very long way to go before we can start talking about the meaningfulness of a lack of life signatures in the atmosphere.

We haven't progressed far enough to be detectable by intelligent life in other star systems, even the closest ones. The filter can easily be in front of us. It could just simply be that interstellar space travel is too infeasible, so intelligent species never reach beyond their home system.

I do the same, metro commuting and a short trip to visit family (~50 miles each way) every couple weeks or so. I don't even have to plug in every time I get home, I only need to make sure I am charged up at least to 75% for the family visit. Level 1 charging is more than sufficient, I've only ever used a charging station just to see what it's like and try to use up some credit I got for them through my dealership.

For those without EVs: level 1 charging is just plugging into a standard 120V outlet. I have no special equipment at home, though I did need to confirm my breaker could handle it. For my 2023 Bolt EUV I charge about 1% per hour on the reduced charge setting (8 amps). If I do need to charge a little faster I can swap it to 12 amps, but I typically don't need to do that.

Getting screenshots or videos off the Switch is laughably arcane. Nintendo is so weird about modern tech conveniences.

I disagree that that's what it means, IMO "shuffle" explicitly means each track exactly once. Pedantry aside, what I meant was a truly randomized order when you shuffle a playlist. It's a major critique of Spotify among users and has been for a very long time.

I really don't get it. Users have been begging for a true random shuffle for years. It's not a hard thing to implement.
