We pay like 30 euros here for 300-400Mbps

Running an actively used Peertube instance is a lot more expensive than, for example, a Lemmy instance. Videos take up a lot more storage than text. Not only that, the videos also need to be processed and then served. Who will keep paying for the monthly server bills?

Then there's monetization. Most YouTube creators are there because they make a living out of YouTube. There is no such thing on PeerTube. They would need to solely rely on donations.

The ideal PeerTube network would be where every somewhat big content creator ran their own instance and maybe a few general instances for smaller content creators that are regularly donated to.

If YouTube ever gets killed by Google, don't expect many people to come here.

I am pretty sure that Vanadium does not have an adblocker in it.

Are you the owner of the fediverse report? If so, can you update the link for FediDB? It seems like they moved to fedidb.com. And also, I'm not sure if it's only me, but new.fedidb.org does not exist for me.

I strongly believe any discussion around federation/centralization should be avoided when bringing in new users. They will figure it out themselves and if they

I disagree. Most won't.

It's better to tell them about federation and decentralization before they join and start asking why there are duplicate communities with the same name (I've seen people asking similar questions about the absolute basics of federation here before in some communities). Not in detail, but enough to give them the basic idea.

And if they find it "difficult", then we already prevented someone from wasting storage space when they would leave the fediverse after a few days anyway.

LW is bigger than it should be. Direct them to some other instance.

You would break up over switching online platforms?

If you are fine with VNs (visual novels) as games, there is Katawa Shoujo. There is a "remastered" version of it in F-Droid for android: https://f-droid.org/packages/sh.fhs.ksre/

If you are going to use a laptop (linux natively supported): https://www.katawa-shoujo.online/download

I used podman. Though you probably can use Ansible, if you want it simple.

There are also a few container management UIs like yunohost that let you deploy Lemmy with a click, but last I checked, it used a very outdated version of Lemmy. There's also elest.io.

I agree. But I think we can make an exception for some FOSS software.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Anything that leads to the demise of Reddit is something I (personally) will be happy about. It's their problem if they stay on a platform like that, knowing full well that their community can be banned in an instant. Now they have the option to create that community here.
