so the ip and the search are still both sent to microsoft?

just because they aren't sent to the 'same server' doesn't mean that microsoft can't reassemble the data.

i'm trying to work with a user here now who has an 'old school' gmail, no recovery methods, no phone numbers. cannot get in, even with the password as it's locked into requiring 2fa or some bullshit, which can't be done because there's no way to. google offers to send a 'code' to an email they provides but they never do. that account is just g.o.n.e.

i have had many others who have been screwed-over by microsoft when they ditched voice calls for verification/2fa, for years they begged and pleaded and conned users into giving up a phone number.. any phone number. and so they did. their landlines. they only ever had those landlines associated with their msa and microsoft won't utilize them anymore. this has spilled over to a several of them losing access to other accounts (in one case, including a number of ipods and ipads used by a family, too) because their 'hotmail' is now inaccessible for 2fa or verification/recovery of those non-microsoft accounts.

i found a couple vendors implying 2x32gb compatibility, one selling a 2x32gb ram kit ('guaranteed compatible' they say) and the other selling the pc itself (oos, though) with 64gb, for this model even though its published specs say 2x16gb max. so it might just be possible, depending on the specs of the memory modules.

buy one kit first from a vendor with a reasonable return policy and try. that's all you can really do.

i had two users this week get those browser-hijacking "warnings" (the tech support/fbi type scams). one scrolling their facebook (probably clicked on a 'suggested' or 'recommended' link), the other reading 'articles' on msn.com. history of each showed direct link from site to scam page.

the ad networks... the sites themselves... nobody is vetting anything.

at least my users are getting better about calling me instead of the phone number on those screens.

so they can still fk with shit this year for the ipo; then worry about that next year after those who want 'out', cash out before then.

just a hunch, but i think old's days are numbered, too... and it's a fairly low number.

dns-based solutions don't get them all.

don't blame them. you need the white house, the house, and 60 votes in the senate to get most legislation through and into law.

i live in the boonies, too. rent used to be reasonable for what i got (a shitty little walk up). it has now more than doubled in three years. all by a new building owner. over the twenty years previous (and three other owners), it went up a whole one time for about 10%.

rents used to be reasonable and stable in this little town, but not anymore. buildings like this are even being pulled off the residential market completely and turned into short-term rentals (they can charge more for a single 3-day weekend rental than they can for a whole month on a residential lease).
