Personally I bought a used office PC (with 8 GB of RAM and Intel i5 6th generation) on eBay for less than 100 €. It works really great!

You can always setup a nice Plex server and give them all the movies they want.
It's not like you can't unsubscribe from Netflix
The desync issue is probably caused by different frame rates. For example, an American movie is 60 FPS, while a Greek one is 50 FPS. That leads to a slow desyncining of the audio throughout the video.
If you know about this problem, then I think it's quite easy to fix while merging the two files.

Just check if the case has enough space for your needs. In my case (pun intended) I just wanted two HDDs, and my SFF case has enough space for those.
Build it yourself! I bought a used HP desktop from eBay and I couldn't be happier.
Keeping an app up to date takes time and work. Especially if it needs cloud services (e.g. multiplayer games).
Good luck trying to maintain an app forever if people just pay it once.
