Don't use my Reddit account anymore, and now I obsessively check and contribute to discussion on Lemmy instead of Reddit.

As a search result, sure I'd click on a Reddit link once in a while, but other than that I've stopped interacting with Reddit altogether.

On solo outdoors-y trips I pack twice as much food and water as I need, a rescue whistle and I inform a trusted relative before and after a remote trip who can get in touch with emergency services if I don't call back by the morning after.

At home I honestly would be screwed by an earthquake or major catastrophe... at least I have an up-to-date fire extinguisher and first aid kit in a readily accessible area.

I am very shitty on security (I would not write this reply on a post on the cybersecurity community), and I resisted MFA for several years as being too annoying having to login to mail/SMS. After finding open source apps supporting TOTP, I feel better about it and I manually do the syncing by just transferring the secrets between my devices offline.

Passkeys are another foreign thing that I think I will get used to eventually, but for now there are too many holes in support, too much vendor lock-in (which was my main distaste for MFA, I didn't want MS or Google Authenticator), and cumbersome (when email and SMS were the only options for MFA, difficulty of portability for passkeys).

To OP and any smart coders out there: if you could implement this feature into Lemmy yourself, you could earn up to a cool €6000.

1% / 35% / 64%. I like seeing what's going on in Vancouver and other Canadian cities, nationally, and the relatively active [email protected] (primarily due to @[email protected] 's news posting efforts).

When I'm done then I visit what's Hot and the top 12h on All.

There are prolific posters and some bots that post nearly half of the content that gets popular on a particular day. Commentors I think there's a healthy mix of regulars and users I don't recognize.

Yes, i'm just making fun of the verbose nature of PowerShell commands.

Seems interesting. As far I know I think why not, as long as you place Dragging Equipment Detectors (example) before and after the installation areas. Seems a good a place as any for solar panels, especially on only occasionally frequented lines.

Any notion that taxpayers are taking on risk here is fanciful given that any loan will be backstopped by Constellation's entire $80-billion-plus value.

Not to worry taxpayers, despite us paying out dividends to equity holders, our $70 billion plus value means this loan is still safe and sound!

Don't worry taxpayers about us spinning off 90% of our assets to Galaxy Brain Energy, a totally independent and different energy company that we didn't just pull out of our ass. The loan is still backed by our $7 billion plus value, trust!

To comply with the court decision, Microsoft have added a super easy to use PowerShell command to install your favourite browser!

The latest: A couple comments about the US VP Debate I had started but decided against. Often times I realize that I'm angry and upset at something I read, but I should step back and breathe before posting a rant and opt instead for something more level-headed.

In the past year: Some replies that I write sound like just backtalk so I don't post those when they don't meaningfully advance the discussion. Some discussion topics like about autism, LBGTQ, gender equality, wars, religion, and race issues I want to reply to, to help spur and advance awareness and discussion, but sometimes I feel it's not my place. I want to leave it for people with more direct experience to provide better answers. Oh and one other reason: sometimes I start writing but delete too topic- or location-specific answers that could doxx myself. I don't mind people knowing what city I live in or have been in but any more granular than that you will have to know me better personally.

Expectation: it doesn't work well at all

Result: It kinda works?
