How is that a bad thing, when the EU was also in the process of releasing new regulations that would have made any open source effort unviable by forcing liability?

Even between providers? I think it won't ever be easy as long as the protocol isn't encrypted by default (which it will never be honestly)

For project management there's quite a few, Taiga.io and Plane.so look the most promising to me.
Idk about CRM though, even after reading what is, I still don't exactly get it

That sounds pretty awful, don't know what to say really.
I should consider myself lucky that I touched WordPress only for a short period of time, the development experience felt really clunky to me. That also means I'm not terribly experienced, so I hope someone more knowledgeable can chime in
