flac is my standard go to anyway. If I need to move music to a more limited storage medium, flac->mp3 is where it's at.
Where is the story here? Is it supposed to be a problem that I drew/generated a picture of Kirby, or Taylor Swift, or George Bush doing 9/11?

Basically force the people who ultimately are responsible for cost saving measures to have skin in the game.

Alternatively, when you've had enough, and you start resorting to violence you'll be glad you don't have a large digital footprint. Obviously if you never do anything of note, privacy has no value to you. But to those that need it, privacy is priceless.
