I'm definitely not the one to ask.

Well of course I know him, he's me (not anymore thankfully, but I have had to write that kind of copy before)

I said this a while ago on another thread, but if I was a Dev on the project I would be working to create a website that automatically signs you up for an instance. The high level concept is instances would opt into this pool, the user would simply put in their username like any regular website, and then the system would create them an account on whichever instance was best for them (maybe based on ping/trying to spread population around).

This would majorly reduce the barrier to entry in my opinion, because a lot of people just want to browse, and don't care about the federation aspect at all.

I don't think it's weird. Right now it probably isn't great cause the pool of commenters is already small, and this dilutes it further, but I think in a world where we had plenty of people in all those communities it would be fine.

It does suck on the posting aide, though, and it also seems like there might be some use to a tool/feature that merges them somehow so you're viewing it all together and respond to whoever you like in one place.

I have a mostly politics free feed that I've cultivated. Some always leaks in here and there, but if it's an account that only posts that kind of content I just block them.

I definitely can see how relentless the politics posting is when I go to all, though.

I can't speak for OP, but personally it makes my bullshit detector kick into high gear any time a corporate channel talks in a casual, friendly tone like that. It comes across as very insincere and infantalizing to me.

Now I need to find a let's play for this...

What is this animation from?

I don't know if they will be a good choice for where you live, but look up "Sur La Table". They're a high end cooking supply store from my area and they do ship. It's going to be pricier than Amazon, but they only sell good stuff.,

Rain outside my window in the garden. Maybe not the MOST, but it's up there.

I recently got an Asus zenfone 10. I usually buy midrange phones but this time I couldn't find a good one. I like small phones, and they seem to be an endangered species these days. This one also has a headphone jack which is nice.

I've been using duckduckgo for years now with no issues, but today I opened it and realized there were no longer any search results before scrolling. It was all ads/info cards. So I guess I'm looking for a replacement. Any suggestions?

Related: anyone know if there's a way in the Adnauseum Firefox extension to hide ads on a specific trusted site? I like their goal of not punishing ads following the do not track standard, but DDG has crossed a threshold and I now want to blacklist them specifically.

I use Gboard.

The main things I like about it are:

  • Very customizable (I like having number row always visible, and having long press for symbols on each letter).
  • Has gif support built in.

My biggest pain point is:

  • It auto corrects words that are spelled correctly to other words. I type "our" and it changes to "out", I recently typed "purpose" and it changed it to "purple". Autocorrect is awesome and necessary, but I hate that it corrects words to other words and not just typos. I wish I could find a keyboard that has the things I like without this annoyance.

Am I looking for a unicorn? Let me know! 😄

Has something new come along? It's been so long since I've needed to do this that I assume CCleaner has enshittified by now.
