Like I said, it's an empty gesture. Unless Nintendo seizes the computers of all the devs, the code will live on and uploading it somewhere is very very easy.

What a useless gesture. It's git code. So long as it remains on one machine, you can upload it to any git instance.

No one should be surprised though that GitLab is protecting their business.

Essential work will always need doing on holidays. Anyone doing essential work gets their free days at other times before of after these holidays.

Good point about hemispheres though. Put half of the days in between December and January and half in between June and July. Since it's an odd number of days (unless it's a leap year), alternate which of these gets one more every year.

Let's go with 12 28 day months and the overhead days are universal vacation days during summer. There you go.

Is this a bit?

Is it better then nothing? Yes. Is it free, fair and unbiased? Hahaha fuck no.

As someone from a country that has this (Germany): It's not unbiased, because it's financed by the state and dependent upon the parties in power for it's continued existence. In Germany that means being beholden to a bunch of neolib and conservative parties. And obviously these libs and conservatives only know how eat hot chip, lie and privatize everything, meaning state media receives a pittance of money and politicians still complain about that being too much.

I'd guess it's because of the automotive union strikes that are going on in the US right now?

It's the prison-industrial complex paying the politicians to push this stuff through. Voters don't matter to the politics being pushed, they just get told later that they wanted them.

It's not deterrence, that's not the point. Deterrence does not work.

It's about sending people to prison so they can do cheap labor. It's also about racism because it's disproportionately targeted towards minorities. It absolutely makes sense in that light.
