Silver lining I guess. But it was more to save the preservation of the Union, there were still slave states in the Union during the Civil War. And non-blacks still thought they were superior to blacks even if they didn't believe in slavery, and that was the majority opinion long after the Civil war too.

I've been learning about the history of the Civil War. Progressive politics in America are the exception not the rule, hundreds of thousands of Americans died because they wanted to own other human beings as property.
