I see quite a few comments trashing this article, why?

It gives solid advice while reminding the reader that this is not perfect.

If I was Snowden this is not enough at all, but If I was an illegal immigrant in a country full of others like me? I think this article plus the final note about past data, does actually give a very solid advice.

I would argue that those who follow this guide, and take to heart the final notes and does something about past information (e.g move to a new address, change some habits, etc) would not be discovered in a mass deportation. Again, if you are an individual who is uniquely targeted by a government, this is not enough.

And yeah, they missed some points and this isn't perfect, but anyone who is serious would do more research anyway, so I actually think this a good article.

My mother made rice in the morning and forgot to put it in the fridge, it was a hot summer day.

When my brother came back from school he decided to eat the rice, not knowing how long it was out. A few bites in he notes the odd taste, nothing major but noticeable, his solution? Add more sauce to drown the weird taste!

Fast forward about an hour, now my brother is puking and shitting it and everything else that was inside of him. So far this is pretty normal right? It can happen to anyone at least once and it wasn't anything crazy since after one puking/shitting session he felt better and was mostly over it.

About 2 hours later my father comes home, this man does not throw away food as long as it isn't covered in mold (this means that small amounts of mould are okay to cut out and eat the rest, thia is the level we are talking about) and just to clarify, we had no food shortage or money issues, he is just unwilling to throw away food.

For some reason nobody threw away the rice yet and it was still on the kitchen counter. My father sees the rice and we all immediately warn him that my brother got food poisoning from it and he should not eat it, of course my father, the genius, decides that my brother just has a weak stomach. He takes a bite, notices the weird taste and you guessed it... Drowns it in sauce!

As expected about an hour later he had a similar puking/shitting session, and learned absolutely nothing.

Also dumb phones are more spyware then you would think, there have been documented cases of dumb phones using sms for background communication to spy or scam

Cashless can only work if you adopt a digital cash such as monero, other wise you are taking away privacy, control and possibly small transactions (depending on what fees are common in your country)

In a cashless society banks and credit companies become your rulers as you have no real way to bypass them.

I suspect that any country that tries to go cashless without a real cash alternative, will just find itself with a new form of cash (gold, silver, etc) since eventually there will be enough people trying to avoid fees and taxes

Can't have your cake and eat it too, you can choose one or the other, but if you pretend that both are possible you might hurt and get hurt.

It sucks but I don't think there is a way for your current relationship (since it is one) to remain pleasent while going for another

Also, maybe have a talk with your friend, figure out what you are to eachother

I suspect that this is the direct result of AI generated content just overwhelming any real content.

I tried ddg, google, bing, quant, and none of them really help me find information I want these days.

Perplexity seems to work but I don't like the idea of AI giving me "facts" since they are mostly based on other AI posts

ETA: someone suggested SearXNG and after using it a bit it seems to be much better compared to ddg and the rest.

Hi, I think in metric units, so almost everything is some form of a power of 10, like a kilogram is a 1000 grams, etc.

Sometimes I will think of an hour and half as 150 minutes before remembering that it is 90 minutes.

Does something similar happen to imperial units users? Because as far as I understand you don't have obvious patterns that would cause you to make these mistakes, right?

I have a home server and I have some HTTP services running on it. I'm thinking if I should even bother with HTTPS, as I'm already using tail scale which should be peer-to-peer and encrypted. So I shouldn't worry about any men in the middle.

Am I missing something?

It just feels wrong to work with non-S HTTP :(
