Why not?

Why is the default response for “nobody even knows I exist” to curl up in a ball and bitch about it on the Internet?

If there is nothing holding you back, then you can do anything you want. What do you have to lose if you feel like you have nothing?

And if your response is that you don’t have the motivation or mindset, or you can’t bring yourself to care… buddy, that’s a mental health issue, and there are people who’s job it is to help people experiencing the same things.

Being fit does not mean being ‘gym bro’. I am 34 and obese. I am actively dieting and working out in order to lose weight, not because I want to be attractive or live forever, but because doing basic daily tasks was hell. I existed in a world where casually walking 10 minutes to work meant I was so warm and sweaty that I needed to shower. I could not squat or kneel down to pick things up or my knees would burn with pain. I was not healthy. My weight caused me to snore, making me more tired. I was walking around like a geriatric at the age of 32.

You don’t have to be a fitness guru who eats kale and chugs protein shakes to be healthy, but the giving up entirely is 100% more miserable than having basic mobility. And it’s a lot harder to come back from when you’re too heavy to work out to your full capacity.

And nothing of value was lost

The issue is, if you want a job in this sort of field, 90% of the time it is contract, with no option or ability to switch over to permanency. I have worked for several years in my current IT job, but I am technically a contractor, and every 6 months, I need to make peace with the fact that I might not have a job for no reason. I definitely do not rock the boat, because even though they’re “not allowed” to fire me if I join a union, they only have to wait till the end of the contract to find another worker bee.

According to the article, the only things being removed are digital copies that were given free with a DVD or Blu-Ray purchase.

Not amazing (I would argue that Funimation should make all eligible digital copies downloadable before the service ends), but assuming customers have their original physical media, the loss is minor.

I wonder if the people who make comments like these would feel quite so smug if their likeness was put online for anyone to use to promote hateful or disrespectful content.

That IS the point, and rarely do equality or equity initiatives “pull down” anyone.

But the Haves feel like they’ve earned their position, and that means that if you help a Have Not in any way, you are taking away from their achievement (which in this case is “not being born poor/black/female”)

Thefact thatyour commentcan stillbe understood kindof disprovesyour point.

Beingpedantic aboutspaces andhyphens in anonline comment-section doesn’t makeyou a better-person.

Thanks for the suggestion, YouTube.

It doesn’t feel like it actually inferred anything from the comment.

“You spoke about computers, so you probably know about computers”

“You express concerns about privacy, so you are likely privacy conscious”

“You said you were 30ish, so you’re maybe 30…ish”

It essentially paraphrased each part of the comment, and gave it back to you like an analysis. Of course, this is ChatGPT, so it’s likely not trained for this sort of thing.

I’m not sure I understand what is being said here. In a disaster situation, EVs are a risk because infrastructure is impacted? Is the same not true for petrol cars?

Clearly competent moderators have some sort of effect, or these stories would not exist. If self-moderation worked, then the dangerous canning post mentioned in the article wouldn’t have gained any traction.

Without competent moderation, the ability for users to manipulate or derail communities grows. A voting system is entirely subjective, and a bad or dangerous idea can set roots if enough unaware people give it the votes. I am aware that moderation is also subjective, but competent, knowledgeable mods can help guide a community, or protect it from targeted harassment.

Also, they’re the ones with no life who can devote their time to monitoring the community. Most people spend a few minutes at a time visiting a community. That’s not enough time to verify every post in the last 24 hours, and vote for them all accordingly (depending on the size of the community of course),
