I would like wired earphones to make a comeback, though that wouldn't stop certain assholes from watching stuff/listening to music without them on the bus with max volume

Reminds me of a part I've recently read on The Dawn of Everything, comparing the Great Lakes natives' freedoms to our corporate owned "freedoms": while we're busy with the "possibility of freedom", they cared about the exercise of their freedoms.

Before the colonization, they were free to visit other places because they almost always had someone that belonged to their clan living there and who would receive them with open arms. They didn't have to pay anything for the travel proper, but obviously needed to take some supplies to spend the days on the wilderness. For us, if we don't have money, we don't have freedoms: gotta pay for the car+gas (or plane or ship ticket), food, housing.

Most preppers are of the "fuck society, I am the most important part of it" mentality, whether they're aware of it or not.

When shit hits the fan and the urban civilizations collapse, it's the old nomads that'll survive (if they haven't been killed off entirely by then)

Unpowered for how long? 6+ months?

but will it have any consequences for Nestlé or any of the big honchos at Nestlé from that time?

Probably a retirement bonus

Making fun of the weak (poor, minorities, etc) is easy because they can't fight back, that's why the best comedy is the one that upsets the powerful.

Bacon. My first taste was of boiled bacon. It was like chewing on a fucking pencil eraser. I hated it, but my mom would insist on putting some small cubes on the beans to "give a taste" (it didn't). Took me some time to finally experiment one that was fried to a crispy dryness. Infinitely better.

What about committing crimes facilitated by facebook, instagram, tiktok? Those fraudsters (fake ads for high paying jobs, famous people peddling snake oil, etc) rarely get caught.

Point 1 definitely has some 50+ countries in it, but point 2 almost immediately leads to Iran, who suffered a coup in the 1950s because the then president wanted to nationalize the oil reserves.

Point 3 is the rise of Saddam. Point 4 is the Iran-Iraq war of the 1980s and the Iran-Contra kerfuffle. Point 5 is the two invasions of Iraq by the USA, 1991 and 2003, the latter leading directly to point 6.

misskey/sharkey are also very heavy on the client side due to excessive javascript. Great looks on the browser, tho

Probably too many old fart executives that "know better", plus directors or writers with a pet project that have to drop it and work on a "stupid game movie"

Also Uwe (suck my) Boll for tax reduction

I've been thinking of self hosting a mastodon (gotosocial, more specifically) + a matrix server on an old computer I have, but sometimes I might need to turn it off for 2 days or more (not to mention some energy or internet outages that might happen here)

I suppose with the mastodon part the server will properly sync and download whatever's been missing, but I'm not entirely sure that'll be the case with matrix. If anyone sent me a DM on there while my server was down, would it get through after it was back up?

Other points:

  • it's not mutually exclusive with any other neurodivergence, in which case they're "twice exceptional";
  • In an environment with unprepared people and professionals, they may be wrongly diagnosed as having some other neurodivergence.
  • It's not just a high IQ score;
  • Gifted kids can be problem students and have low grades;
  • Homework feels like torture (this is true to any child, tho);
  • They're very likely to question authorities and point out perceived hypocrisy (emphasis here on perceived, because pointing something and being right are different things);
  • As kids, they may have weird quirks for executing tasks, such as wanting to hold pencils the "wrong" way, or wanting to press against a wall to do homework;

If you're Brazilian or can understand Brazilian Portuguese, this is the podcast I listened to - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apnuIIePeeA

Aos brasileiros que acabarem encontrando esse post, o podcast que assisti é o que linkei acima

I've been interested in checking out some "DIY" boardgames, ones that you could just print the pieces/sheets/cards/tokens/etc and play.

I'm mostly interested in boardgames that can be played with 4+ people and require little setup or rules introduction, as I'm pretty much being the "gateway drug" for the group (everyone I've shown Blokus so far has loved the game).

I'm ok with knowing about heavy games (stuff that takes an afternoon to finish) to keep an eye on for future reference

I've been reading a book on the Paraguay War, Maldita Guerra, and it mentioned how Solano Lopez (then Paraguay's dictator) planned to invade Mato Grosso and possibly take Cuiabá. Trips upstream from Assuncion to Cuiabá at that time would usually take 12+ days on steam ships.

What really surprised me is that this kind of information was supposed to be taught back when I was in school.

Some weeks ago, I've come across Delta Chat, whose main thing is "(near) instant messaging using your email"

That left me thinking, has this been attempted before? If not, why? Also, why (besides servers' limitations as means to fight spam) isn't this solution used more often, given that e-mail has been a decentralized solution for well over 40 years now?

Asking mostly because I have fuckloads of video courses, plus a number of movies, that I have yet to even check if the content is as good as their titles imply and I really feel like I'm mostly hoarding this stuff because I have no fucking clue.

Most major news sites, as well as some other sites of reading content like Medium, have a paywall for certain articles, but those are easily defeated by people who bother to search the internet.

As I suspect said companies are aware of that, and they don't react to properly protect their paid stuff, what do they expect to gain?

Although playing online works, I haven't tried a direct connection/invite with another person, due to me lacking PC master race friends.

In the general server list, I think the SA region stands for South America? In any case, my ping was really high, so actually playing online is not feasible for me.

I'm using IGG games' torrent version, it was a simple extract and run. The fake steam account name defaults to NooB, so I recommend you change it in the following folder: %appdata%\Roaming\Goldberg SteamEmu Saves\settings - The account_name.txt is just the shown name, while the user_steam_id.txt is the acc number. I've changed both. Keep in mind that changing the id might make your saves disappear, so you'll have to create a new world, then copy over the save files - %appdata%\Local\Pal\Saved

If you're a fan of survival crafting, this game is a must play. The fact that you can play solo and change the world settings (exp rate, stamina depletion, hunger, etc) anytime before entering makes it perfect for all skill levels. I just think the default capture rate is too low, but I guess it makes more sense when you're online in a guild?

No idea how many hours I've spent playing, but I'm definitely buying this game in a few months.
