The younger generation is less tech savvy than the millenial generation who were forced to figure stuff out themselves and didn't have smartphones.

I get the idea that a lot of people who emigrated to the fediverse are older and also more tech literate given all the linux memes.

/r/videos used to be a default and supposedly has millions of subscribers, but when I was still on reddit you'd regularly see content with 100 upvotes reach the top of the subreddit and maybe 10 comments. Often this was on bot reposts.

Their numbers should be take with a huge grain of salt.

Cheer up. It'll be over soon.

  1. The German language doesn't work well with pun based humour. This is the kind of humour English speakers are used to.
  2. They do but you need to be able to speak German to understand the jokes they're making. Understandably, it's hard to be funny in a second language.
  3. IME German humour is often incredibly dry, deadpan or even anti-humour. In the past I've experienced Germans making jokes, and British people thinking they were being deadly serious. Eg. "An Irishman, a German and a Brit walk into a bar. They order beer." Expressionless face - shit example, but you get the idea.

You seem to have misread my comment.

TBF they complain about being censored even if they haven't been banned, so they'd simply keep complaining about being censored. No change at all.

Too little, too late, better than nothing.

I suspect Kimbal Musk will be on the list and perhaps his more famous brother. I also expect the Musks to face no real consequences from it, because society is still fundamentally unfair and shit floats.

People clearly do care, that's why they manufacture drama. It helps drive engagement and views.

Of course, it's hard not to look down on people who develop parasocial relationships with youtube personalities.

But some people are very lonely. So if anything we should be critical of the youtuber who knowingly cultivate unhealthy fanbases and profit off their misery.

Bit ironic that you don't seem to have read my comment properly.

Firstly, you missed the caveat about the example used being anecdotal.

Then you seem to have missed the bit about reports suggesting functional literacy is decreasing.

A quick google:
