Rice absorbs moisture. The moisture might make it more conductive.

If you want to use imessage on android:

(includes self-hosting options)
If you want to use whatsapp:
If someone else has an old (and/or prepay) sim which can receive texts, you can authenticate whatsapp that way. IRC you can also authenticate with a landline. Install whatsapp using the landline number, wait for SMS authentication to fail, then it should ask to call you. Say yes, and you'll get a call with the authentication code. Et voila.
My nieces and nephews are all young children so i definitely want to encourage/educate them to get off corporate controlled communications channels
Good luck with that, is all I can say. Kids are very susceptible to peer pressure, especially as they enter their teen years. It's only when they're in their late teens that they'll open up again and start becoming more critical.
Unfortunately IME it's a no go if you're using banking or government/authenticator apps. (Your mileage may vary and this may change.)
Not how it should be, but how it is.
When I bought my phone a few years ago, motorola offered one with relatively stock android, no forced install of facebook or whatever, several years of (timely) android updates, and a large battery. A few years down the line, I'm still getting updates and the battery still lasts days.
And it was plastic and came with a cover, so it's survived the occasional fall just fine.
Honestly don't get why you'd spend more on something that can so easily be stolen.
I haven’t ever had a relationship with a woman, but I don’t hate all women either. I just consider myself unlucky. Does that make me an incel?
No, if you don't hate women you're not an incel.
Who was clearly inspired by Metropolis:

More David Lynch Dune than Denis Villeneuve Dune.
Also that Sartre quote:
Never believe that [they] are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. [They] have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.
This being said, the Socratic method sometimes works. Just keep asking them questions and let them argue with themselves.
Obviously not everyone online is a troll.
He's previously defended the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, so yeah.
To be fair, it's hard to tell what the man believes anymore.
If you want to learn Putin's take on Russian history you're better off reading some of his speeches, the wikipedia entry on Putin, or perhaps a bit about Aleksandr Dugin. Then remember that Putin is a man who has previously defended the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact and Stalin, and has the charisma of a walnut.
The interview with Tucker Carlson is hours long, Putin's clearly in full propaganda dictatorsplain mode, and it's boring. Putin's famous 2007 Munich Speech is only half an hour long, more honest and more interesting:

If you want to understand modern Russia watch something like Adam Curtis' Russia 1985-1999 TraumaZone. It's genuinely interesting, fascinating, and you'll actually understand the Russians' perspective more. If you want to learn about Russian history, there are podcasts which will give you a far more entertaining and accurate overview.
That's not really a choice you can make. Also idiots don't know they're idiots.
