That's a great idea!! I like choosing a new username for each site and stars often have fantastic names already!

First series was phenomenal and it's such a great concept. I really wish Kinnerman had stuck with it! The second had great potential and I still enjoyed it for it's (sometimes shitty) answers to S1 questions. But it fell flat overall. Netflix cancelling the series was understandable but I reckon it could have been kept strong if they kept Kinnerman.

I miss Poe. :(

Aaaaw very cute!!! I love collie-like dogs! I had a collie-whippet cross as a teen called "Lass". NOT "Lassy" but "Lass". She was like a miniature black collie with long fluffy arse hair. You could grab a big handful of arse hair, lift her off the ground and walk her round like a wheel-barrow.

She seemed to enjoy it!! 🤣

I think it's the long snout, triangle ears and constant energy and happiness I love most.

Did you meet Klaus the goldfish while you were there?

Would I be right in thinking you have webbed feet and a circular family tree?

fancy

My "fancy" is very much off-limits to your musings! I will add Dark Tower to the list though. 👍

What about Germans? Suspicious you mention everyone but Germans when you have a German name. Are you a secret German?

I think it's a bit late.

Norwegian wood.

Oooof it may be contraversial but I just don't get Haruki Murakami! I bought about 4 of his books on offer in Waterstones 20-ish years ago. I read Norwegian Wood and Sputnik Sweetheart.

It's hard to put into words my feelings. They weren't just boring, they were void of anything. Like I started Sputnik and by the time I finished I was still waiting for the story to start. Norwegian Wood I only finished in increasing anger cos I didn't understand how a book could be written that didn't start a story. As I turned each page the screaming of "SOMETHING HAPPEN!" got louder!

I don't think I've ever read books like Murakami before where nothing happens. There's no central driving force to pull the story along. It's like a description of a random persons day where there's no deeper meaning or reasoning. It just "is".

I honestly think I could write a Haruki book if I just wrote about my day in the most mundane way. No metaphors or flowery language, no drive, no development or change - just describe my day. I get up, I shower, I make coffee. Add a few connecting words and BOOM - worldwide best seller.

OK I'm exaggerating a little but they just annoyed the hell out of me. Sometimes when things don't meet expectations you can still see why it gets praise. But Haruki? I read it and thought - how is this popular? Nothing happens! It's like a painting without colour or a modern art installation of a turd on a stick that people describe as the second coming.

They're so boring they're enraging. So anyway, I'll check your other suggestions but not Norwegian Wood - which I think I binned rather than giving away. Cos I thought it would be cruel to inflict it on anyone else!! 😂

The Book of Dust

Funnily enough what triggered me to write this post was when I looked over at my full bookcase at all the unread books and then saw my original trilogy of HDM. I thought "Maybe I should re-read it?". I've never re-read a book in my life cos I never saw the point in re-treading something.

But it's been almost 20yrs since I did and I've forgotten a LOT of it. I don't think I'd be able to read the new series without re-reading the OG trilogy but maybe that's a good starting point anyway? Reading a series I loved to springboard into the new series? It'll be easy cos I'll be rediscovering something I know.

So I just grabbed Northern Lights after adding everyone's recommendations to my list. I may start with NL though.
