I am not aro/ace, but I am super lonely. I don't think you are purposely keeping yourself from happiness. I think you are purposely limiting yourself as a form of... romantic procrastination. If it would make you happier to be in love with a human girl rather than a fantasy, but you fantasize instead? You're afraid love won't be like you imagine it. That you aren't good at it. And won't be good at it. And it won't be any fun because of your lack of skill. If this sounds right, it might be.
