Previously our office was 2/3 WFH/office hybrid, which everyone interpreted as "2 days from home regardless of how long week was." They recently put their foot down and said it's actually 3 days in the office no matter how long the week is...but also all managers have to be in the office 5 days.

So my personal experience contradicts your claim. Do you have any evidence to back it up?

"My" intellectual dishonesty. Lol

This is hilarious to read because they didn't run out to buy the item, they thought they were getting it for free and just had to pay shipping.

Still not very savvy, but I would suggest you think long and hard next time before you attack other people for lacking critical thought and having "incompetent opinions." Lol

Are you sure it's legal? Why can't you just back in if it's on the wrong side?

As both a regular engineer (electric/computer) and software engineer... The amount of interest I got as a regular engineer never even came remotely close to the deluge of recruitment attempts I regularly got during the pandemic, but it remains consistent. Even now that it has diminished a bit, it's still far more.

This is part of the reason I'm primarily a software developer now because I got recruited and got a huge pay bump, a way better lifestyle, and far better perks.

I guess I'm just not too concerned with start up times, having come from the age of HDD. 6 seconds to start, as long as it's not lagging while I'm using it, is almost unnoticeable.

I bounced around between LibreOffice and OpenOffice for years as I was too cheap to pay for Word. Mainly Libre.

Finally broke down and paid for Office365 when I was struggling to display some (I believe) docx files at the same time my wife was requesting we get it for her work (and this doesn't even get into struggling to get stuff to display properly for word uses which was constantly a problem).

And man, is it lightyears better than libreoffice. And sure it's slower, it does a ton more stuff, but if it feels slow to you. . .what kind of computer are you running? I use it on my 8 year old laptop all the time and have never really thought it felt slow.

Wordpad I didn't even realize still existed. Just looking at it now, I see why. I see very little I gain from NP++ (or I've even switched over to VSCode for a lot of things).

I feel like you are making the case for why the only "easy" replacement costs money. The free versions are all extremely limited, or aren't very good.

The best camera is the one you have on you. It's one of the basics of photography. I don't carry an slr with me all the time for good reason, but I do have my phone, and it being able to take good pictures is important to me.

I also often carry an APS-C mirrorless with me when carrying stuff is less of an issue, and it certainly takes way better photos, most of the time.

Yeah but I already believe they are listening because one time I talked about something and it advertised it to me, and let's ignore all of the hundreds of things I also said just that day alone that it didn't advertise to me, so this was clearly "saying the quiet part out loud." And now they are just trying to cover their asses.

You really don't realize that lemmy is social media? You really don't realize that toxicity and misinformation is rampant here?
