I was pretty adamant that Biden should stay in the race.

I figured that if he left the Dems would eat themselves in a giant squabble over who'd replace him.

Never thought they'd fall in line behind Harris.

Nice to be proven wrong.

So, first they create phones that make it easy to ignore other people. Then they create machines to give you the 'interpersonal experience'

. It takes an army of time travelers working night and day to get any changes to stick.

Changes do occur in the story. The participants talk about the 'Change Winds' and how people can just disappear because thier timeline has been shifted and their parents never met.

The author did a few stories based on the 'Change War.'

In one, a time traveler goes back and takes the bullets out of a gun, hoping to prevent a death. There's no gunshot, but the victim is hit by a meteor and dies anyway. The idea is that Time is immutable and almost impossible to change with only one set of hands.

Watched a couple of episodes, didn't get to the time war part. May check it out.

[off topic]

One of my favorite time travel novels is 'The Big Time' by Fritz Leiber.

The two big ideas in the book. First, that there's a Law of Conservation of Reality. Go back in time and shoot Hitler. He dies. Then gets better, really fast. Twenty minutes after you shoot him, he's fine. Spend your whole life shooting him and the history books will just ignore it. It takes an army of time travelers working night and day to get any changes to stick.

Second idea. There are two armies, both trying to change the past/future. They have been at it since before the Big Bang and will go on until the Heat Death of the Universe. They recruit humans but no human has ever seen the big bosses, just low ranking stooges.

So many people on the Left ignore basic nuts and bolts politics and waste time, energy and votes on Utopian nonsense that most voters have never heard of.

Then, when someone like AOC comes along and actually makes effective changes in the Democratic Party, these Left folk attack her for not setting herself on fire.

Greed. A sane person will walk away from working once they have enough saved to comfortably retire.

$100 million can let you live comfortably forever, but there are plenty of people who want that much every year.

Those are the folks who become 'leaders.'

Realistically, nobody who has managed to reach Putin's level is going to walk away. You've been plotting 24/7/365 since forever; quitting is not an option.

In the scenario you post the only thing one can do is to make a one time deposit of $100 million to a Swiss bank account, and then ask the security detail to escort one to the US embassy [the idea is that I am myself, just somehow in Putin's office].

Once at the Embassy I claim to have no idea how I ended up in the Kremlin.
