That's called a 'jitney.'

They can follow a regular route, or make detours for door to door service.

Much better with an actual driver to provide safety and assist the low mobility passengers

I used to work in public health in NYC. I got to see all the people comign into the hospital. The elderly folks who had lived their whole lives on the higher floors of walkup apartments were almost always in great shape compared to their contemporaries who weren't getting exercise every day.

Here's the thing about fights; everyone reacts differently to trouble. Some people will roll over if you push them, and others get more entrenched the worse they are treated. Jeffries has a crew of smart folks whose only job is to figure out which way each Member will react.

It's the kind of situation where what looks logical from one POV looks insane from another. The way MTG judges the fight and the way Jeffries sees it are lightyears apart.

This is all about appearances and feelings. US general elections are in November so appearances are important.

Taking away the Speakership would look great for the Dems, but would mean that the GOP would be fighting tooth and nail 24/7 until the elections.

Having Johnson in place as a GOP who will work with them means the Dems can pass laws they want and make Biden look good. You have to realize that up until the Reagan Era, the GOP had a pretty strong Liberal wing. Not following the Party line blindly wasn't as big an issue then as it is today. Most Americans want a functional Congress.

There are plenty of GOP Congress members in states that for for Biden in 2020. They would like to be able to campaign as moderates who get things done, which appeals to independent voters.

The GOP side comes down to how the Trump loyalists/extreme Far Right decide to paly it out. They got rid of the past few Speakers and may decide that they want to do it again to show how strong they are. The problem with a big fight is that they might lose, and end up looking weaker.

Back in grade school we had a teacher who played us 'Stan Freidberg Presents The United States Of America!" It's an old comedy alboum full of silly songs about the Founding Fathers. Certainly mindblowing, creative, and unique.

You have a downvote from someone else. Wear it with pride!

I gave you an upvote because I came to ask the same thing.

We've wandered into a bad neighborhood...

Speaking as a former child myself, I can honestly say that I never saw that growing up. Maybe I missed it, or maybe it just never gained popularity in my area, but it took the entire worldwide interwebs to intorduce me to it.

Nixon used a 'Southern strategy' to get in in 1968.

I like to say that Nixon fed the base beer, Reagan made it grain alcohol punch, Bush Jr. pulled out the moonshine, and Trump gave them meth.
