No, as stated in the article, it’s the sensor manufacturers that are not properly implementing the security protocol.
Most are headed to Patreon and Vimeo. A few seem likely to try out PeerTube.
An interesting idea. But non-profit is antithetical to Google’s business model.

Google may find that their only option is to paywall YouTube. Too many of us will prefer to pay creators directly rather than letting Google take a cut. And YouTube is not the only game in town.
I admit that I’m pretty much done with YouTube anyway. Their unskippable mid roll ads that interrupt videos mid-word have become obnoxious enough that many creators I follow are jumping ship and advising their viewers where to find them.
It’s certainly a tech topic.
You’re still entering the password or pin for your password manager. I genuinely do not see how this is better. It’s simply an alternative, not an improvement.
So far a Firefox workaround seems to be copying the URL into a fresh private browser window.
It may not be enough to matter, but a not-insignificant number of users will simply abandon YouTube if this keeps up.
Achievements are achievements. It was mostly likely not publicized because the CCP saw strategic advantage in having an ability that the West didn't know about. Now that it's out there, expect the typical central party spin machine to crank up.
