Even if they're not natively skippable, ads have to be indicated as such by law. Whatever indication they use can be detected and used to create blockers.

Even that doesn't matter, why would you need to keep your PC on. It's about preserving the data, if it's only online occasionally it's still better than nothing.

The mission never got lost. It's just become popular and thus attracted the average person, and most people do not care about "connecting with people" in the way that you maybe do. Has nothing to do with the site itself really.
I mean as this post says, uBlock is still blocking everything.
This is just the first step, the more you click that X the more annoying they make it until eventually you can't close it or watch anything at all.
