Looks like it has Google AdMob, CrashLytics, and Firebase Analytics trackers...as well as FB Share according to Exodus. While I totally support the cause, this app is definitely tracking/profiting off of it's users behind the scenes.

Definitely true, but I think the problem is there's no DNS out there that blocks everything you want. I've never found a DNS resolver that blocks my TV's telemetry domains, for instance. A pi-hole on a RPi runs super cheap so the quick initial setup adding blocklists is super worth it for me at least.

I use Shelter from F-Droid to create a work profile and then install RethinkDNS on that profile which blocks any trackers from the "bad" apps (you can add a tonne of blocklists). Additionally, if you have a Pixel, GrapheneOS has total app isolation (including storage scopes) so Messenger only has access to what you allow.
I've experienced this too. I don't want to disable DND mode but I'm not aware of an alternative...following!
I pointed out the trackers that are included in this app for full transparency...not everyone likes having Google and Facebook on their phone. The inclusion of these trackers also hint that the app isn't open source, which was the initial question. I'm not sure any of this called for such an inflammatory response...
