Holographic storage is a fluff project, the resolution we'd need to match modern density is simply to narrow to be done optically. I mean it sounds fun but will never be practical

Archive discs are that but not exactly cheap.

I work at one of the top ten data processors in the world.

ALL of our devs have been WFH since 2014 and produce better work now than ever.

Yes and that's wonderful and everywhere should implement it.

But they won't.

Because people are fundamentally assholes. Just California has a lower quotient due to higher education (though hollywood does skew that a bunch too)

Dude, read the room. We are in the era of the oligarch.

MOST money will go to the clueless rich who do not need it and we will continue to slide into french revolution levels of wealth gap.

In foster care we were part of the free lunch program. The first week in my first high school the lunch lady made it a point to call us all up first so EVERYONE knew who the 'poors' were. This was in one of the top 5 most expensive zipcodes in the U.S.

For the next four years I ate knowledge in the library for lunch.

He and all his friends are voting, you should too.

I'd love that, my entire frontpage is the same 30 things over and over unless I deliberately sort for something then it's a DIFFERENT 30 things over and over

I dunno what the movie was called, I was 7 and had fallen asleep in front of the TV. When I woke up there two 'grey' aliens of in hindsight terrible costumes crouching in some bushes.

I had never seen a depiction of a grey alien before that and my uncanny valley sensor peaked higher than ever at any other point in my life and I ran to my room without even shutting off the tv.

It's funny to look back and remember that as a moment of legit fear, knowing what I do now.
