I have to think miniature guns for toddlers would open up whole new segments for gun manufacturers

With different skins. There'll be a pokemon skin, a lego skin, a paw patrol skin ... The market is endless, and most importantly, untapped.

In 2021 4,752 children had gun related deaths. That's 13 a day.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but if those children had guns to protect themselves from the guns then it would have been 0.

Yes, but we refer to it as 14 a day, because 13 is bad luck.

How many of those were gang members under 18?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Depending on source, some were gang members over 18.

There are 74 million children aged 0-18 in the USA. Going by your numbers, that means in 2021 that 99.99999% of children in the USA were not harmed by guns.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

I know your number is a hyperbole, the real percent given the numbers in the thread is ~99.994%, or 14999/15000 unharmed, which, most supporters wouldn't bat an eye at anyway

this was a Sacha Baron Cohen bit

Oh don't worry, they're working on it. Look up the JR-15.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Start them young. With extracurricular marksmanship classes as well, to get them to shoot accurately

[–] [email protected] 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

My high school used to have a shooting range. It was taught as part of P.E.

You make a joke of it... but people back then legitimately did it... I feel taking that away (the fundamental understanding of what a gun is) has done a lot of harm in today's society.

Somehow other countries that never had gun ranges in their schools are not having the problems America has with guns.

I wonder why! 🤔

Ah yes, because learning about how guns work and firing one makes you instantly into a homicidal maniac! Better not play those videos games! I hear they make you violent.

Edit: Just to prove the point though... British Virgin Islands is worse than America. Must be because those laws are so effective... Not because of the neighbors. Not at all.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

British Virgin Islands is worse than America.

What are you talking about?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Under the "crown's" rule... and has a significantly higher homicide/gun violence/death rates. Almost like the law alone doesn't matter if the location is terrible. Proximity to central/south America is a problem.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They've had six shooting deaths in this entire year.

America has had 35,000

Pretty sure the problem is proximity to America. Where do you think those guns in central/south America are coming from?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You're not looking at per capita rates are you? Way to drop the ball there.

their population is ~32,000, USA is about 11,000x bigger. 6*11000 = 66000, or about double the American rate!

[–] [email protected] -3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

... more people have been shot to death in America than the island's entire population! Using per capita on such wildly different population sizes is disingenuous - and This is still clearly due to proximity to America. Where do you think those guns were made? Where do you think the ammo was made?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago

Using per capita on such wildly different population sizes is disingenuous

Using raw numbers is many times worse than comparing per capita. It's not like we're talking about an n<10,000. They're statistically relevant.

and This is still clearly due to proximity to America.

Ah yes! Must be America's fault. That's why the numbers get worse the further away from America you go. Totally, we project through more than 8 countries to affect Venezuela, Brazil and Colombia. Man... Good thing EU has dozens of countries to go through in order to get to their problem countries like Nigeria, and SA.
