No one wants to work for google because Google cancels and wrecks everything they touch any more. They are totally unstable and all leading researchers know it. Google is completely shit from both ends.

And because everyone hates Google... other firms are making massive offers to try and poach those disgruntled employees just looking for an opportunity to flee?

With the current economic who even knows at this point, there are definite concerns over Google. But it is still an incredibly in demand place to work. Because most people aren't looking to work there as a full career. They are looking to pad out their CV to get a major step up on all future job hunts.

And... research wise, they actually are a good place to work. Because you aren't working toward a product. You are working toward a capability. And a very heavy CV

This is the best summary I could come up with:

OpenAI is exploring options for an employee share sale that values the company at $86 billion, Bloomberg reported last month.

The firm behind ChatGPT has already won over talent from Google and Meta to help work on its AI chatbot.

Five former Google researchers were listed in the acknowledgments section of OpenAI's blog post announcing the launch of ChatGPT last November.

The company had around 59 former Google employees and about 34 ex-Meta staff working for it as of February, according to data from LeadGenius and Punks & Pinstripes.

A job listing for a research engineer with OpenAI's superalignment team shows an annual salary range of between $245,000 and $450,000 and states that its total compensation includes "generous equity" and other benefits.

Leiki said on an episode of "The 80,000 Hours Podcast" that the company is looking for strong candidates who have a passion for making AI safer, who can think critically, understand machine learning and know how to code.
