I'd love an app like that.
A true app or program though, running on devices. Something that could set up ad hoc networks or relays. Locally it shouldn't be reliant on the Internet.

Ah man, I miss that app. So good that my university tried to ban it.
But federation would be a weird choice for something that’s supposed to be limited to a small area. I guess if multiple people in one town wanted to run an instance…
Ultimate local news source? As a guy who spent way too much time on that app 10 years ago, wtf are you talking about?

Idk, it was ao small. I think the fun was going a few blocks over and getting a totally different vibe/community. Can’t see how playing “whisper down the lane” ends up with good news coverage
Plenty of shit that would never make the news would end up on yikyak, you ask what happened at blah blah street hella ppl would chime in
