Is this what you think 40s looks like?

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

People who were 10 when Self Esteem came out probably think that, yeah.

They would be 37 today, and have weird expectations as to what would happen to them in the next three years…

I didn't make this meme, but from my understanding it is trying to represent a feeling. Not represent reality in a realistic way.

Thanks for commenting and for your participation in the fediverse. Peace.

People who write "until" as "till" have 30 years to go, so it's conceivable.

The more it hurts the more it shows you really care, right?

but this guy is obviously mid-60s to early-70s. you youngins will find out soon as age takes you, as it takes us all.

55 here, and it still happens more than I’d like to admit.

As someone who is 40... and considering buying a skateboard cause Jesus christ i need some exercise anymore... I hope that I can stay that cool.

As someone how is 34… that’s a longboard, and you should totally do it! Way easier to ride than a skateboard because it has a huge platform to stand on and a big wheelbase. I’ve been longboarding since I was 19ish and still keep it up.

The site I used to buy from in college is still around:

https://www.daddiesboardshop.com/collections/longboard-completes

Those are completes, so they’ll come with everything pre-assembled out of the box. Look for “drop thru” for some boards that are easier to ride because the deck is lower to the ground relative to the wheels.

So those are more for getting around, no? When I was a teenage I had one of those, uh the ones for doing tricks, Ollie's and such. I think I wanna get one of those again.

As someone who is 41 and had skateboarding as a minor hobby growing up, I'd love to revisit it but am terrified that I'd shatter like glass if I even had the slightest sudden unexpected gravitational pull to the earth's floor

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Kinda my worry as well. But I no longer care how I look, so going full helmet and pads won't bother me. And I don't really plan on dropping in on half pipes or anything crazy. Spring will tell...

Yeah I never skateboarded in the sense of doing any street or vert style skating, purely longboarding around campus and the city and the like, I think less risky haha.

That being said, I used to do a bit of board dancing, a way less smooth and far more amateur version of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMLFZcONQAs

But that’s definitely not something I’d revisit, the existing aged scars I have from longboarding are enough for me, I’d rather not add anymore, especially because like you said, I’m not convinced I would recover quick like I used to.

If that guy is in his 40's he has lived a hard life. I'm surprised he is still conscious let alone mobile.

You can only be as rad as you want as long as your hips still function.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

And knees and ankles in this case

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 days ago

So here I am, growing older all the time
Looking older all the time, feeling younger in my mind
And here I am, doing everything I can
Holding on to what I am, pretending I'm a superman

I got to ride with that guy back in ~2013. Rad dude. I completely forgot his name.

Victor Earhart. Unfortunately it looks like he was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2016.

Cool video I found of him while looking around.
