Yes. Although the previous method didn't really need manual intervention, so as long as you go online at least once every few months it gets automatically renewed.
But this method activates Office permanently with no need for internet connection, so you can run away from civilization to an unmapped forest with your laptop, and Office remains activated even if you stay there forever.
What is the actual advantage of Microsoft office in contrast to libre office or open office?

Microsoft bribing ISO to make their crappy standard docx the norm then implementing the docx standard differently in word than in the official docs they made so that FOSS alternatives don’t work as well IIRC.
Step one download open office
Step two, discover that people don't move to free Office alternatives for a reason
