I didn’t know what XCode was, so I read the first three words of its Wikipedia article.

Xcode is Apple's

And suddenly, all surprise vanished.

Yeah, Apple, but at the same time and unlike GNOME and Flatpak Apple actually did a decent implementation of system containers for applications that doesn't result in barely usable applications.

Comparing Flatpak or Gnome to Apple seems highly irrelevant in the context of this post. But, you do realize that neither Gnome, nor Flatpak is a trillion dollar company, right? Also, since when are Flatpak apps "barely usable"?

Sure, just try to get a password manager to communicate with a browser both on Flatpaks. Things like that should work, that's what people expect, or at least should prompt the user for permission to communicate like Apple does.

Flatpaks also just come with a set of default permissions at install time, so running in a sandbox only really protects against flaws in the software, but not against malicious intentions by its creator. Flatpak doesn't have an "ask for permission" system afaik, at least not standardized. What you do is you add or subtract from the default the app itself specifies.

Exactly, and that's precisely the reason why it's still not a viable solution for the average user. This a big problem and a problem of consistent and integration between Flatpak , GNOME, KDE etc.

Hopefully support for that will come through desktop portals.

Or notebook colours, as the user suggested:

📕: error message
📙: warning message
📗: ok status message
📘: action message
📓: canceled status message
📔: Or anything you like and want to recognize immediately by color

Why, Apple? Why?
