I'd like an e-ink monitor, but there's a lack of competition and the prices remain too high. A 12" monitor for $849 is not worth it.

Yep, and the portable part sounds great but if i need a portable monitor I'm going to just use a laptop. $850 is 49" ultra wide territory.
$849 and $1,649? Those pricetags are so absurd that this post should be removed on principle alone, nevermind that it's stealth marketing masquerading as an article.
I mean it’s an e ink display. There’s currently no economies of scale to help bring down cost. It’s a hyper niche device with probably an unknown market.
Pricetags are absurd because they don't have competition.
And 90% of it is R&D.
An A4 sized e-ink tablet with colour and an open source OS would be my dream gadget.
If such a thing existed, the price would have to be completely insane to keep me away.
