Haven’t visited Reddit since I came here last summer. I love it here. It’s not perfect, but it’s ours

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I still visit Reddit every time I want to cum.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I've given up. Every other post is an ad. Spoils the mood.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I've never seen an ad in reddit

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (3 children)

How so? You need to use the ap to see porn and the ap is mostly an ad server.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

What does porn have to do with it? But that's not the point, I used to use Infinity for reddit, and then when they changed the api, I used it for a while and then switched to old reddit.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Actually, I thought that maybe I had seen that ad a long time ago, but I just forgot about it 🤷‍♂️

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

What? You need no app to see porn on Reddit. Use a web browser with the RES addon on a regular computer and visit old.reddit like a normal person.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

We're on the mobile/desktop devide. I've only seen reddit on a computer if I clicked on a link from someone. That's why that api bullshit brought me here.

+10 fake internet points added. 🤑 ✍️

Holy crap, I've been here almost a year. Well I was using kbin at first but still.

I visit reddit occasionally and honestly, Reddit is also just reddit recycled content. I'm not on there nearly as much as I used to be and I still see the same fucking posts and videos on popular, many of which are just karma bots.

I think I see more new stuff on Lemmy. Not usually good stuff, but at least it's novel. Or very very old memes, but that's not recycled reddit, that's more recycling icanhascheeseburger or some shit, and I'm down for that.

Reddit is Facebook for people too young/cool to be on facebook Edit spelling

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago (2 children)

This seems to be saying that Lemmy is stopping you from viewing recycled reddit content, which confuses me as Lemmy is full of it. No judgement, I'd rather view it here than there.

Seize the memes of procrastination

[–] [email protected] 14 points 5 months ago (2 children)

NGL, I miss subbing to 2 dozen cat subs. The numbers of cat related memes and pics on Lemmy are disappointing.

be the change you want to see in the world

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

That is the only reason I can't uninstall reddit. I need my multireddit of cats/dogs/cows to fall asleep.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 5 months ago (1 children)

More like filtered reddit content.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Eh, have you seen some of the bots that just repost reddit content verbatim? Some trash slips through the cracks.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

I hate when it even says OC in the title still...

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Oof yeah, some places here are just full of it. It makes sense out of an archival perspective but it also loweres engagement because OP is never going to look at a comment

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago (1 children)

That's fair. I see that plenty in the stomping grounds I cater to (shameless plug for [email protected]). Part of why I make it a point to make OC, outside of my very first post to dip my toes into meme making and 2 recreations of "classic" memes that needed the HD treatment. It's not a bad thing to hold onto those old jokes and fond memories. Many of them stand strong for a reason and hopefully they help drive creativity forward as they have for me/others.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

That do be how memes work, lad/lass.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Controversial opinion: I see more recycled content on Lemmy than Reddit. Comments are usually far better here, but it's an unavoidable reality that there are less people generating new content here. Especially for niche communities.

Hop on over to the niche communities about movies or particular subgenres and they're either dead or recycling stuff. Go to those same niche communities on Reddit and you'll see lots of fresh content all the time. Maybe the main feeds are comparable but if you're into anything niche that isn't computing, privacy, politics or gaming, Lemmy can get a bit stale.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

The silver lining, for me, is that I'm doom scrolling less due to the smaller amount of content here. But yeah, we need more creators here (I am not good at coming up with memes)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

I'm both posting as high output as I feasibly can of OC, and aggregating links from blogs and creators I follow to [email protected], as a way to minimize reddit content.

[email protected] is also full of links to articles and blog content relevant to the hobby that isn't ripped from reddit.

[email protected] has a small but regular community.

So many people complain about dead niche communities or niche communities only recycling reddit content. If that same energy was put in service to making new content, the communities would be improved. There is a bystander problem where loads of people complain, but if you check the profiler of the complainer, you often find few to no posts.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

You've just described humans in general.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

You can get recycled reddit content at lemmy too

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

We are trying at least

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago

Discussion tends to be much better here though, I don't miss reddit at all.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

I’m ok with it. There’s plenty of content I’ve missed out on and memes are meant to be recycled into jpeg artifact oblivion. If anything, this just helps bolster the amount of content available on these platforms that can help new users not feel like joining an empty hallway echo chamber. It’s part of the growing pains of trying to get new / alternative platforms up and running.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

It’s loss.
