MODERATORS

When you sort by new, it seems like the majority of posts are news articles.

Is lemmy just free advertising for these lying, biased, narrative warping bastards?

Most of the post are from either left or right outlets, I haven't seen many "center", not that that truly exists...

I mean, how many of these outlets have continued to lie to our faces after we have proven them to do so, and yet we still let them get posted here?

Because it's a forum where people can post things. News happens every day, sometimes several times a day. What are you expecting to see?

Lots of people expect a reddit-style forum to have news. If you don't like it, block the communities where news is the main thing that would be posted.

Speaking for Politics and World News, we require all posts be news articles.

Otherwise what you'd get is a bunch of crappy memes, Twitter screenshots, and 40 minute Youtube conspiracy videos.

I find being very aggressive about blocking communities related to regional news, national news, and sports of any kind is a must have for any link aggregation platform.

Set your default to "subscribed" instead of "local" or "all" and you won't see things you don't want to see. For me it's sports, gaming, linux and anime. I block communities based on those all the time, but if I go to "all" they're still going to be there, new ones pop up all the time. You just have to put some work in to your subscribed list to curate your experience.

Don't subscribe to news communities, and then view "Subscribed" rather than "All".

Posting to a news article is easy compared with creating content, so you will see a lot more of it.

I follow a crap ton of Art and odd stuff and different communities so I don't see much news

It depends where you are looking, but there are a few Tankies that love posting in various lemmy.ml news subs.
