MODERATORS

I'm trying to find moderate and intelligent people to have discussions with without political psychosis and all the arrogant I'm smarter than everyone who disagrees with me bullshit. It seems every community here is hard left who think things like this post are Nazi declarations because I'm not buying their nonsense. Any suggestions?

arrogant I'm smarter than everyone who disagrees with me bullshit.

Says the guy who's asking where to find people who will agree with him.

You can disagree on politics and still be rational and kind about it. This place isn't that.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 8 months ago

They have one comment in their history and it's not kind so that isn't what they're looking for.

just block hexbear dawg it's fine

"Moderate and rational" is a contradiction when you are in a sinking ship.

Imagine a real sinking ship. Some people will sprint to the lifeboats and take off before they get overloaded. Others will try to plug the holes to slow the sinking. Neither of those are "moderate," but they are both rational.

The only time it is appropriate to be moderate is when there are no crises.

What are your interests first? Then we can go from there

Question, are you looking specifically for ones on Lemmy?

[–] [email protected] -3 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Well, I'm still new to this and Lemmy is all Im aware of so far. Well besides places like Gab and Scored but that's the same issue.

How about BlueSky? They recently removed their invite code requirement, so it's the perfect time to join.

I don't know. If someone says, "fuck Israel" and I reply "fuck Israel AND Hamas" I get downvoted to hell every time. Luckily, the points don't matter. I think it's just a sickness of the site, it is even more insular than back in the dark ages when I was on the other site. I'm OK with it as in most other ways this place seems OK. The Presidential election is basically democracy vs totalitarianism, so I can kind of understand the division there, in that there aren't real policy things that people are arguing over.

What is "moderate and rational" supposed to mean? Moderate isn't rational, moderate is paralysis

What topic though?

I'd like to think my comic book community is pretty rational, but it is all about comics. :)

Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn't work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago)

Do you know why it's like that? By all means Lemmy etc is a shrill crowd, but also 99% of all posts like yours turn out to be a right-winger out to either troll or at least rant unproductively about people disagreeing with them. That desperate desire for moderate and intelligent discussion seems to go out the window pretty quickly when people disagree with 'em.

(Edit: probably do stay away from .ml though, they are exactly what you think this place is)

Hey, wecome, sorry for all the downvotes. Don't let it chase you away, there are dozens of us here -dozens!- who are more rational and realistic. I, too, was hoping for a more relaxed, less extreme political chatter, but alas, it's not here.

So, if you find any of that outside this space, please let me know, I'll gladly join.
