You'll probably be severely throttled (I know my local coffee shop does) and if you aren't, you'll be being a huge dick to anyone else on that AP. I strongly advise against it.

Its advised to use a vpn on public wifis, even if youre not torrenting. Also you could sign up for a trial and go for it to see if there are restrictions.
If they are blocking vpns you could use one that uses http or https ports, those are pratically unblockable.
If most vpn's are blocked, you could try a proxy server but the reliablity and privacy of them can be questionable.
There is also DNS tunneling, while much harder it does work ok.
Actually you can block vpns using port 443 and 80. Using a methode callesd deep packet inspection. Not something you find in a typical coffie shop. But it being practically unblockable is false. My school used to do this. So i used shadowsocks or tor with snowflake.
Yeah i know, i thought this would go into to much Detail, because, as you said, they wouldnt have that in any small shop

That completely depends where you go. Some places will block it, others won't. My company allows VPN connections but limits them to such extremely low bandwidth connections that it's unusable. Others will straight up block it.
I wouldn't recommend using any public connections without a secure connection.
You won’t be able to port forward without a vpn that supports it which will severely limit download speeds. Might be worth a shot if you have a vpn though
It'll be slow as hell or bog down the connection. I know because I tried. Sometimes networks will also do tricks to block or filter torrenting though direct/unproxied connections. Usually though it'll just be very slow.
Use a seed box to torrent, then simply download the files from it.
