You could actually run an actual legit miner on the thing, but yeah, you're not getting ahead your electricity usage.

You're assuming it isn't plugged in to someone else's power though.

In that case I'm sure they're enjoying their 60 cents per month

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Look at this fatcat too good for 60 cents

The seller didn't said they pay for their electricity. If they live in a dorm, or charge the phones in their workplace or school, there are lot of illegal ways to get free electricity. It's easier to conceal a regular phone than an antminer

Is that illegal? Aren't they offering it to you for free? It's definitely immoral but probably not illegal.

In a dorm its legal but may be against your contract.

At school/work you probably aren't officially allowed to charge your devices, so it's theft.

Even if you are allowed to charge your phone at work, they technically may have to meter it and tax it as additional benefits depending on your country.

Can't charge your phone at work? What the hell shit places do you guys work? That's insane.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 8 months ago (1 children)

USA! USA!

But seriously even in this shithole nobody bats an eyelash at charging a phone.

The antiwork subreddit is full of.. dubious.. stories. That article hasn't verified any of the claims and it's well known that sub is (was) compromised of people who got off on manufactured outrage.

Edit: autocorrect, but I'm leaving it

Or in this case, likely using mom's electricity without her knowing
