Sorry about this, I didn't test on my current Bussin installation! Schoolboy error, I'll try not to do that again.

Should be live on Google Play soon.

I am trying out Perchance image generator on the web and the only size it gives me is 512 x 768. Where and how do I get larger images. I am not interested in high resolution for print but would like at least 1024 pixels for display on my web site.

I swear sometimes I feel like I'm reading a bad newspaper comment section, like everyone is a poorly trained AI that just spouts default politically-oriented replies. The New York Times comment section for any given topic (not just current events, also culture etc) is way more interesting than most of it here.

Note this also applies to a LOT of reddit but there are some subreddits that are more interesting. A lot of them have their own circlejerk but at least when I first find them the "game" is new so I'm eager to read what people have to say.

Where on Lemmy is the actually good or interesting discussion happening, please, I really want something better, I am eager to contribute too, it's one of my resolutions for 2025.

At some point in February (definitely before the 14th) I will be migrating this Lemmy instance to a VPS, as I am decommissioning the dedicated machine it currently runs on to cut my spending.

if I page someone (@user@instance) from my instance to a different one, the user often does not get any notification. what's the standard way of paging another instance's users?

I have loads of files and paperwork that can be scanned into files. I would like to have AI scan all the data, compile results and recommend options. For instance.

A large list of 176 food items ranked based on ones immune system response to each food item compiled into a diet plan. I can strip the identifying information for privacy reasons.

I just want to know how to have AI do more advanced tasks. While also respecting privacy. These concepts seems reasonably possible. However Chat, and other LLM do not scan files as they cannot be uploaded or scanned and input.

Self hosting possible but not necessary for this as I can strip personal info before uploading or inputting.

Lemmy has a strong tendency to criticize the US, and a lot of the critiques of certain issue with the US are valid. However, I started getting really tired of opening comment sections in innocuous and non-political posts only to see that someone somehow found a way to criticize the US in it. At first, I started thinking that maybe some Lemmy users are really unhappy and find criticizing a something stronger helped them feel better as if standing up to injustice was a passion of theirs. But, we don't see them do that with other targets, just the US. The more I notice and think about it, I'm starting be suspicious that some of those users and comments aren't authentic, but made to create divisiveness in the West and reject the US entirely. In other words, they may be Russian, Chinese, et al. agents working to feed a stream of propaganda in order to further cause chaos and lack of unity in the West as we have seen them do before.

Anyone else think about this?

This is what I'm thinking the game plan is:

  1. Criticize something obviously unjust that the US has done. Ignore that all other major powers have also committed atrocities.
  2. Link and liken it to other US matters & behaviors
  3. Paint the US entirely as evil so that nothing the US can do is just
  4. Attack anyone that supports anything out of the US (we are between here and #3 above)
  5. Create a black-and-white model of geopolitics: US vs everyone else. EU and Russia on the same team lol
  6. West fragments as US and EU relationship dwindle from pseudo-populist movements (e.g. MAGA)
  7. Pick specific countries in the EU to start alienating and repeat the cycle
  8. ???
  9. Profit in special economic zones

I watch bodycam videos on YouTube. A ton of them come from red states; they're rural. I see the resistance to cops in red states as sort of "muh rights" but it occurs to me that Leftists (like me) may also stand up to bullshit (just not the same bullshit).

I know that I think cops are corrupt, but I also won't fight someone with a gun. What are your thoughts on how this divide might play out?

I’m a business analyst, and a big part of my job involves working with engineers and product managers to gather detailed, in-depth information. For reasons I don’t fully understand (though I have my theories), I often find that engineers, in particular, seem oddly reluctant to share the information I need. This makes the process more challenging than I’d like. Does anyone have tips or tricks for building trust with engineers to encourage them to share information more willingly and quickly?

EDIT: Here's a summary with more details for those who requested more info: I’m working on optimizing processes related to our in-house file ingestion system, which we’ve been piecing together over time to handle tasks it wasn’t originally designed for. The system works well enough now, but it’s still very much a MacGyver setup—duct tape and dental floss holding things together. We got through crunch time with it, but now the goal is to refine and smooth everything out into a process that’s efficient, clear, and easy for everyone to follow.

Part of this involves getting all the disparate systems and communication silos talking to each other in a unified way—JIRA is going to be the hub for that. My job is to make sure that the entire pipeline—from ticket creation, to file ingestion, to processing and output—is documented thoroughly (but not pedantically) and that all teams involved understand what’s required of them and why.

Where I’m running into challenges is in gathering the nitty-gritty technical details from engineers. I need to understand how their processes work today, how they’ve solved past issues, and what they think would make things better in an ideal world. But I think there’s some hesitation because they’re worried about “incriminating” themselves or having mistakes come back to haunt them.

I’ve tried to make it clear that I’m not interested in punishing anyone for past decisions or mistakes—on the contrary, I want to learn from them to create a better process moving forward. My goal is to collaborate and make their jobs easier, not harder, but I think building trust and comfort will take more time.

If anyone has strategies for improving communication with engineers—especially around getting them to open up about technical details without fear—I am all ears.

All the stories on the FP are about labor relations and corporate shenanigans. So anyway, do you like Star Trek or Star Wars better? Anybody still ike to read old school sci fi, for example I really love Poul Anderson's Polesotechnic League stories - the swashbuckling adventures of intersteller trador Nicholas van Rijn and his Solar Spice and Liquors company, David Falkayne, et al. Good old basic space opera.

It's gone through 7 layer burritos of hell so I can't be mad. Farewell soldier.

Fortunately my bed is right by the bathroom and that has a fan. Not the same, but good enough.
