It seems to me like there's a lot of talk in the vein of "AI will never be able to meaningfully replace humans at [Task X]," and not enough talk about what we should do to prepare for the possibility of AI replacing humans at those tasks.
Like, right now, AI can create shitty art and write shitty code, but are we prepared for what happens if and when it can do those things well? We've got to acknowledge that human lives have inherent value, and not just because they can do things that machines can't.
Karl Marx said if rich people own the technology that does more work, the rich people will get the profits and the workers will starve.
No, we aren't prepared, because there is no we. And they don't have to acknowledge any such thing, because they are literal fucking psychopaths.
"UBI...?" Hahahaha. NO.
They intend to wring every last drop of productivity out of what's left of the working class, finish the job of consolidating all wealth at the top and leaving us with absolutely nothing. After that, the plan is to keep the angry starving hordes away from the walls of their freedom cities and luxury bunkers and super-ultra-mega-yachts with AI powered auto-turrets and kill-bots and murder-drones and robot dogs with frickin flamethrowers on their heads.

Then they will someday wake up with a shock, because no amount of tech will stop 99% of the population from winning a revolution. That only happens in movies.
Plus, many countries would riot far before it gets to this point. We frenchies protested for years "just" because of our retirement being pushed a few years...

What 99%? 96% of that 99% you mention I have observed to be quite lazy. Things have been severely bad for decades yet no meaningful reaction.
That 96% of the population isn't currently in a state so shitty they'd revolt. We're talking about a dystopian future where there is barely any work to do, yet no UBI or equivalent system. A future where the rich have everything and keep everything. People born in these conditions won't be too lazy for a revolution.
