I realize this is a really silly request, but I absolutely refuse to watch YouTube videos without a proxy frontend let alone logging into a google account.

I've been wanting to watch dnsl's "Fallout RP is serious business" but it's age restricted.

Does anybody know either of a way to bypass the age restriction or can just send me the video? I've tried everything I know short of giving in and signing into YouTube.

I really hope the people who made or at least the ones who maintain grayjay, invidious and piped get to work on bypassing age restriction.

I really want to the internet to go back to the way it was 15 years ago, where nothing was so insanely restricted or controlled.

I hate that all the rich elites of the world are using Orwellian novels as instruction manuals

You can't bypass age verification on YouTube.

yt-dlp still works for age verification content, but you have to pass cookies to it.

But here's the video: https://qu.ax/KsDqd.mp4

I don't think any of the proxies or frontends have a good way around it yet, and google is clearly using it as a way to fuck with said frontends. Best practice suggestion: Every time you get cockblocked by something like this, you must send at least one friendly DM or message to the content creator suggesting they at least put a second copy of their content on a decentralized platform.

I bought a google account for less than $1, used it to log in to pipepipe and nothing else. Then I only use pipepipe when all else fails.

I haven't found any other way, even an unreliable one.

I also found myself not wanting to click youtube links because there's a good chance I'll spend the next 5 minutes switching apps and vpns and whatnot to make it work.

can you explain the purpose of buying a google account as compared to just making one yourself with untrue details?

Being overly Paranoia? Can't think of another valid reason.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

how would it be better than a burner email though? I don't understand

I have not been able to successfully create any big tech accounts woth any kind of privacy protection, like on a VPN.

Even better way (which I did) using an email alias, create a dummy account with random details.

I use GrayJay as my front-end, and it’s got some cool features like age restrictions, SponorBlock, and the return of the Dislike button. Plus, you can even log into your YouTube account.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I think the question is, can it do all those other things without having to log into your YouTube accoubt?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Yes.

The logging in is for getting your subscriptions transferred. Though you could also do the export method on there too.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

I use a CSV file that I exported from my Google account a few years back. You can also sync between the phone and desktop app, subscriptions, watch list and playlists.

Last time I checked, it do require login with Google account. It is long time ago tho, so idk if it is still the case.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

not anymore, fiddled with it, it worked without being signed in once, now it doesn't work

[–] [email protected] 7 points 4 days ago (3 children)

yt-dlp might do the trick.

But did you solve your own problem?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

First thing I tried but I think you need to provide it with your YouTube login cookie to download age restricted content.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That sucks, i thought i had used it before to get some music videos.

I think newPipe has an age restriction toggle in its settings, its available on android, not sure about ios, pretty sure not available on desktops.

Its been a while since ive needed to do this.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Newpipe fails too:/ (as well as the greasemoneky script I use on my browser)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Why does youtube suck so much? only a few years ago it was so much easier to access from anything. And now it's way more restricted

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

I think You know the answer and so do I

.Yeah consider this being rickrolled:)

But yeah, it's probably capitalism and whatever adjacent to it

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

Nope, not without a YouTube login to verify age. I just ran into this the other day.

Settle down, partner.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Back when invidious generally worked you could bypass age restrictions with it, maybe if you ran an invidious instance or just tried random ones until it works?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 4 days ago

inv.nadeko.net try this. But sometimes it is down. My method is freetube over VPN for normal videos and for some geo restricted or unplayable videos I use invidious.
