The middle class in China is larger than the middle class in the US. The number of poor is also larger. But it is no longer a nation of poor people.
What constitutes the middle class in China? How comparable is it to the US?
Yeah if we're using the offical federal definitions, the US's definition of poverty is laughably lower than it should be
For reference, in the US in 2023, if you are a family of two and your combined annual income is $19,800.00 you are considered to be above the poverty line. This figure represents income BEFORE taxes are taken out.
