The “we started uploading” is a can of worms.

At some point, the “we” will be sued unless the legal paperwork with consent from the authors is well done. Not to mention the ton of copyright materials and music that are actually licensed for use on YouTube but not anywhere else, not to mention everything that is clearly worthy of copyright strikes but YouTube failed to notice they were serving.

While YouTube may have the legal muscle to deal with copyright infringement and appease the rights owners with some checks, a network of volunteers is not equipped to play those “games.”

Of course they don't. Hiring junior devs for their hard skills is a dumb proposition. Hire for their soft skills, intellectual curiosity, and willingness to work hard and learn. There is no substitute for good training and experience.

As much as I love the Fediverse, it's amazing that Mastodon users see this feature as a threat. By the way, any decent app implemented quoting years ago.

This is all I need to never even look at a Jeep... how pathetic can these idiots get?

I do not think it’s a good idea to isolate people in cults in their own echo chambers… although my faith in humanity and basic decency has seen better days, I still believe good examples matter.

Never had a reason to block an instance, here or in mastodon.

I have no issue in paying creators with my YouTube Premium subscription. What annoys me is seeing creators feed the algorithm with “regular posts” or create filler videos for sponsors when they have nothing to say.

That and seeing explainer videos from someone who learned something five minutes before recording… the number of copycats and regurgitating the same news content is depressing.

The same goes for the epidemic of faceless AI videos narrating generic content… horrible. The “don't recommend channel” must be worn off by now, from me alone. :-)

Fantastic exceptions from talented creators make it worth it, so I am happy.

Really love podcasting. Last one I created was a decade ago, give or take, gotta do another soon. :-)

But I think you pretty much nailed the current state of affairs.

Weird, I had a bluesky add-on on my experimental friendica installation and have not noticed any messages other than the ones people I followed participated in.

I have since deleted it, so cannot figure out what they have done differently.
