The Vikram lander and rover weren't designed to survive the lunar night so this was expected, but a loss nonetheless.
Right? It was planned.
14 days in really cold and dark is really harsh for any electronics. Unless it had a radio isotopes generator, I can't imagine much of anything electronics surviving.
