Valve is a private company owned by someone who is passionate about games and so unlike other companies with investors, they leave short term money on the table to make the best product for gamers. If its ownership model ever changes it will speedrun enshittification for the same reason other storefronts suck

What exactly is the value that steam provides with its 30% cut that Apple doesn’t provide? Not defending Apple by the way.

Openness of the hardware is a valid point but that isn’t exactly a feature of steam (nor a distinction between the other platforms in OPs comment)

I get why people like steam. But as a steam hater, if GabeN ever dies and the kids or whoever is heirs are decide to sell to VCs or private equity. That 30% will be just as oppressive as anyone else’s.

US Mobile is the best deal I’ve been able to find with their yearly unlimited plans. I pay once around Black Friday for what I paid for 2 months of service on Verizon

Millennials are the largest generation in the workforce, they were born to the boomers the largest previous generation before everything went to piss and birth rates dropped. Millennials are the next boomers, they won’t be culturally irrelevant for a long time. Sad too, as popular culture has basically broken down to just remakes and reboots of properties from our childhood

Hey now, we also have programming and meta-fediverse discussions as well /s

It’s still worth it to red-pill people of the harms these algorithms cause and accept smaller network sizes that exclude people who refuse to “quit smoking” so to speak.

Anyone can defederate from .ml but they have a lot of users being the dev run site, so many don’t. Or at least that’s the reason lemmy.world has given in the past about why they have don’t federate with hexbear and lemmygrad but still do with ml

Lemmy.ml Lemmygrad Hexbear

Basically the 3 far left instances that will enforce the discourse to be Marxist and anti-west.

Most instances are defederated from the latter two but not the first because that instance is run by the main Lemmy devs (who are communists)

I really loved my Razr as well. It was the best compromise between usability and pocketability. I plan on using this mini until the wheels fall off so when the next time I get a new phone it ought to be much more durable than the first gen.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I’ll be honest. I think the people who want phones that fold out into even larger phones are completely unhinged. Phones are already way too big. My iPhone mini is about the maximum size I’d want a phone to be.

Durability is definitely the down side. I had the 2019 Razr and it was perfect because it folded down into a pocketable size but the interior screen stopped responding to touch after about 6 months

I know that the source is more focused on retro gaming as a topic but the topic of this post is Google and its pagerank algorithm which is more appropriate for this community.

We’ve all noticed the enshittification of Google Search over the last few months, but it’s still hard to hear how it is affecting content creators and putting them out of business so we can see 20 AI generated spam pages about whatever our query is.

While I’m dubious of the claim due to the robust permissions management in the latest versions of iOS and Android, it is interesting that a company has come out and said they are doing what everyone is thinking.

And yes they are a subsidiary of the parent of Cox Communications, the ISP, so I would be switching to a competitor ASAP if I had their services
